Produced between 1989 and 2009, reference 16600 is one of Rolex’s longest production runs for a dive model. Featuring all the much-loved aesthetics of a sports watch, the size on the 16600 is unmatched, especially when being compared to the newer, larger-cased Sea-Dwellers. At 40mm and being very Submariner-like in size, the model separates itself from its smaller sibling through its 14mm case thickness, which really suits itself to the wrist and remains prominent yet subtle and comfortable. On the side of the case exists the watch’s helium escape valve, giving the watch water resistance of an astounding 1,220m, placing the watch well within its category of being a “dive watch”. Up until 2003, the cases of these watches had holes in the lugs, to allow for the bracelet to be attached and the spring bar to run within the case. Albeit replaced for a safer internal fixing position in the early 2000’s, there is a charm surrounding the exposed lug holes on the sides of the case which enthusiasts adore, and this model has just that. Containing the absolutely bulletproof self-winding calibre 3135 within, which lends itself to all time and date Rolexes from this era up until 2020 when it was updated, the wearer gets the bonus of having an extremely precise movement whilst achieving up to 48 hours of power reserve. Albeit now 22 years old, the watch remains absolutely timeless, and will continue to be for the foreseeable future.

Condition Report:

In stunning condition, showcasing that beautiful angled-grain across the lugs with mirror-like bevels on the edges, this is exactly how a Rolex sports watch from its era should look. This example even retains its original green case back sticker, displaying the model’s reference number. Complete with its original box, “Submariner” booklet, leather papers pouch, service-papers and original punched-papers, the watch truly is a gorgeous example and one that would sit well within any watch collection, anywhere in the world, or even as the perfect “one watch” collection. Not only does the certificate display the correct “400” country code (indicating Hong Kong) matching the Hong Kong-retailer who sold the watch originally, but also possibly unique to this example, the watch was sold on the very first day of the millennia, 1st January 2000. A cool and quirky addition to this already super watch.
