Rolex Day-Date 40 “RBR”

Rolex Day-Date 40 “RBR”

£70,000.00

The Rolex Day-Date is an icon within the watch world, and in more recent times, the model is seemingly getting the recognition and desirability attached that it has always deserved. Launched back in 1956, the Rolex Day-Date has never left the Rolex catalogue, and has remained as the brand's signature statement watch ever since. Available in a number of sizes and iterations over its 60+ year life-span, gem-set variants have always been the one’s that stand out and more significantly, prove to be iconic and important watches throughout time. In recent years, the Day-Date has seen a huge surge in popularity, specifically within the 40mm size variations due to them being both absolutely stunning, but also in being unisex. Coming in an array of different precious metals, the watch seen here is crafted in solid 18ct white gold - but that’s not where this show-stopping piece finishes. Recognised as an “RBR”, this Day-Date 40 watch in question is a gem-set masterpiece. The “RBR” itself refers to the brilliant-cut diamond white gold bezel, which is a work of art as it is. However, it’s very much so the dial with this watch which is quite incredible. Featuring a full pave diamond dial (aside from the Day and Date windows), the entire surface is effortlessly elegant. The process of finely carving the base metal plate, to then hand-set each gemstone is an incredibly intricate process and is most definitely the reason we really don’t come across many Day-Date’s with this feature. Alongside this base, there are eight baguette-cut diamond hour markers, and two baguette-cut sapphire hour markers at the 6 and 9 o’clock. The complication itself is fantastic, allowing the wearer to instantly view the day and date alongside the time through two separate dial apertures, which is made possible thanks to the self-winding calibre 3255 within. With the combination of this watch’s rarity, aesthetically-brilliant looks, and also the watchmaking finesse required to produce such a watch, this could well be one of the best looking modern Day-Date’s out there.
