The Calatrava truly is the foundation in which Patek Philippe themselves have grown as a brand on, and the line date back to the very early days of Patek Philippe’s founding. Embodying all that is thought of when we hear the name “Patek Philippe”, the Calatrava range oozes sophistication, class, and most of all exquisite watchmaking - of this this 5227G contains all of. Seen here in the black dial, and white gold variant, the time and date-only watch is very much so an icon in its own right, with its classic Patek case shape and beautifully finished dial and movement. The dial itself, as mentioned, is black but has a charming gloss to it thanks to the twelve layers of lacquer that go into each dial within this range. Wearing slightly larger than the Calatrava’s of the past, the watch remains sub-40mm at 39mm which is in-keeping with modern times whilst remaining as an extremely wearable size that can slip under any cuff or sleeve at ease. When turning the watch over, the wearer is greeted with a charming Officer’s Style case back, which can be opened to reveal that previous-mentioned and perfectly finished Calibre 324 SC within, and serves as a lovely throwback to the classic-wearing watches of the past. When all this is paired with its shiny black alligator leather strap and white gold prong buckle, the overall package and value for money seem somewhat overwhelming (in a good way)!

In excellent overall condition having been worn sparingly by its one and original owner, the watch is question is a fantastic piece and the perfect entry-watch to the brand should it be the more dressy Patek’s which its future owner prefers. A complete and European-retailed set, the Automatic Calibre within is is running perfectly and it’s ready to be worn and enjoyed.
