Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked

£150,000.00

The combining of the perpetual calendar movement within the Royal Oak’s angular and iconic case was inevitable, but it wasn’t until 1983 with the reference 5524 (later to be re-named 25554) that we saw the finished product. What was introduced was a thing of beauty, and breathtaking in its array of forms (through varied materials, dial displays etc). Whilst many have “normal” perpetual calendar dials, it’s very rare to find one such as this - in which the dial is entirely open-worked. Whilst maintaining all of its calendar displays, the sapphire dial is transparent, with white indicators and blackened-gold hands. With regards to the watch’s display, the wearer is immediately able to view the day, date, astronomical moon, month, and the leap year - all alongside the obvious being the minute and hour hands. This is all possible thanks to the AP calibre movement within, which can only be described as a thing of beauty to look at, both from the front and the rear. Housed within the best-shaped case in the business, and arguably the greatest tones of Rose Gold created and used by any of the worlds top tier brands. The iconic case and bracelet give off a striking appeal thanks to the combination of expertly-polished edges and screws alongside the brushed and satin surfaces which are displayed on the majority of the watch. At just 39mm in diameter and 9.3mm thick, the watch sits superbly on the wrist, and given the new-era of perpetual calendars are solely produced in 41mm now, this could be one of the last of the very best grand-complication Audemars Piguet sports watches.
