One of the few Royal Oaks in 2022 which still represent tremendous value for money, when compared to its discontinued and hyped rivals, there is little not to love about this 42mm Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph, known as the “Elephant”. Cased in stainless steel, with a slate-grey colour way throughout its dial and strap, and further black details on the dial and crown/pushers, it’s understandable as to how this stealthy sports watch got its nickname. The black crown and chronograph pushers are in fact ceramic, which Audemars Piguet are well-known for using in recent times, and give off a really appealing look as well as being extremely easy to use. Wearing slightly larger than your more traditional “Royal Oak”, the Offshore is a perfect offering to those who prefer a larger-wearing watch, and at just 14.21mm thick, the curvature of the underside of the case allows for the watch to harmonise wonderfully with most wrists. The dial itself features the brand’s “Méga Tapisserie” pattern at its base, and wonderfully ties in the grey/black theme with its large luminous filled Arabic hour markers. The time, date, and chronograph available to the wearer are powered by AP’s self-winding calibre 3126/3840 within, which is viewable through the watch’s sapphire case back displaying the brand’s horological abilities when it comes to reliability, craftsmanship and overall movement finishing. Attached to a “hornback” grey alligator leather strap, the entire offering is pretty special to look at and even better when worn on the wrist.

Condition Report:

In incredible overall condition, the watch has hardly been worn throughout its lifetime. Royal Oaks in general are renowned for their sharp and octagonal bezels showcasing wear due to their delicate nature, but the stainless steel which is used here is really durable. Overall, the bezel on this watch remains in very strong condition, with just two very small marks on the edge of the bezel at 6 o’clock and 10 o’clock. The rest of the watch shows almost no signs of wear whatsoever, having been worn infrequently by its one and only owner. Coming to us as a complete, full set, the watch is accompanied by its inner and outer original boxes, instruction booklet and guarantee booklet.
