Rolex Submariner

Rolex Submariner
“The 5513 is the quintessential Submariner, an iconic piece of engineering and still in vogue more than 60 years later.”
When Swiss explorer Auguste Piccard first took his submarine down to an incredible depth of 3,131m, a specially-designed Rolex accompanied him, and emerged from the water keeping perfect time. This was the inspiration for the 1953 introduction of the Rolex Submariner, arguably the most important watch in history, inspiring not only future dive watches but the entire sports watch category. This model, the 5513, was produced from 1962 all the way to 1989, with this excellent early specimen dating to 1963. It features the classic black and steel Submariner colour scheme, with a black gilt dial forged in a time-consuming process that exposes the brass underneath the dial’s face, resulting in golden text and markers and making the piece hugely collectible. The stainless steel case measures a commanding 40mm, with a black rotating bezel and pointed crown guards. The watch’s original Oyster bracelet is a beautiful example of a Rolex early-60’s ‘rivet’ stretch bracelet and is still in excellent condition, melting into the wrist when worn. A watch that stands the test of time.
Condition Report:
